Introduction

Hello, I am Claire Ladds, author of literary fiction and short stories, as well as some psychological suspense. This page explains how I use your data when you subscribe to my Substack publication, Literary Fiction, Literary Life, and other elements of my author business. I aim to be as transparent as possible because your privacy is very important to me.

My Work

I own the copyright to my work. You may not copy work on this website in any form whatsoever, neither may you save or print any of the work on this website without the prior permission of Claire Ladds, except for your own personal usage.

Subscribing to my Substack Publication

I take your privacy very seriously. I ONLY use your email address to send you the emails you have subscribed to as part of my Substack publication. I NEVER use your subscriber information for any other purpose.

When you subscribe, you will be asked for a working email address. You will also have to confirm that you wish to receive emails from me (please check your spam or junk folders for this email if you don’t see it in your inbox). The confirmation email and instructions are sent to the email address you use to sign up. This is called ‘double opt-in’ and aims to prevent someone else signing you up for emails without your knowledge. Going through the confirmation process confirms that you signed up intentionally, and that it was not a mistake.

Everything here on Literary Fiction, Literary Life is FREE and I ask for no payment whatsoever for accessing and reading my work on Substack. You DO NOT need to input any payment details.

Collecting Data

I do NOT collect, nor will I EVER collect, any sensitive data about you for any reason. Sensitive data is deemed to be data such as that which relates to your age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and activity, religious affiliation, or any criminal convictions.

I never ask for your personal information, except that which enables me to provide you with the services you wish to use. Information you provide for any service is always up to you, with your consent. Currently, the only information I ask for is a working email address, so you can access items of interest that I have to offer, such as receiving information from me through my newsletter.

Complaints regarding how your data is handled should be addressed to claire[at]claireladds[dot]com and clearly marked ‘DATA HANDLING COMPLAINT’. Please also provide clear details of your issue in the body of your email. I will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 30 days. I will document and investigate the issue, and report back to you.

Third Party Partners

I use selected third party partners in order to function as a business. Currently these are:

Automattic (for my website, which you will find at https://claireladds.com);

Mailerlite (which holds the email address data given by anyone who signs up for my email list (separate to my Substack newsletter). Please note: I do NOT ask you for any personal data, including your name, when you sign up to my email list);

Bookfunnel (where I store any free books I offer to readers when they sign up to my email list, and also where my launch team can access their exclusive, free copies of their Advance Reader Copies of my work, if and when they become available);

Social Media and book-focused sites: TikTok, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Goodreads and Bookbub.

I may, from time to time in the future, use the services of other businesses to promote my work to targeted audiences. I will NEVER upload your email address to a third party for purposes of targeting people for any advertising campaigns that I may choose to run in the future.
